First, I’d like to congratulate our incredible Department of Transportation and Public Works for the incredible work they are doing to build a future-ready Miami-Dade. We recently re-opened the Coconut Grove Metrorail Station, welcoming riders back after performing critical modernization and infrastructure update, and will continue to work on upgrading our Metromover system. We are moving full speed ahead with modern transit projects that will increase our resident's quality of life and make our community more efficient.
Now that we are well on our way to budget season, we are facing new fiscal challenges. The upcoming budget process is shaping up to be especially challenging, with several headwinds creating a perfect storm of pressure on our county’s finances. That’s why, with the support of my entire team, we started engaging our residents earlier than ever. We held three budget town hall meetings in north, south, and central Miami-Dade last month to speak honestly about the challenges ahead and how we’ll get through them together. But we are not done. More town hall meetings are coming soon. To stay tuned for upcoming town halls in August and budget hearings in September, I invite you to visit miamidade.gov/budget.
We are also working extremely hard to maximize savings and efficiency across county government, and to make sure we are spending every taxpayer dollar to maximum impact through my WISE305 initiative.
I am immensely proud of the way we join forces together as one community when it matters most. The work of our county staff exemplifies the spirit of public service that defines our county.
With gratitude,
Daniella Levine Cava
Mayor, Miami-Dade County
Delivering benefits to riders and the community
My highest priority in the coming months is the launch of the first SMART Program corridor: Metro Express, the Bus Rapid Transit service on the South Dade TransitWay.
DTPW is putting the final touches on what will be the county’s first-ever all electric Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service, scheduled to launch late Summer. The new, state-of-the-art, emissions free Metro Express BRT service will run parallel to US-1 along the South Dade TransitWay; and once it opens, the 20-mile-long rapid connection will be the longest battery-electric BRT system in the nation.
The new Metro Express service will bring many benefits to riders and the community at large. The new rapid transit connection will offer a quicker ride on brand new, all electric, roomier buses equipped with charging ports for mobile devices, easy access through all doors, free Wi-Fi, and bike racks inside the bus. Meanwhile, the 14-brand new state-of-the-art, air-conditioned BRT stations include real-time arrival displays, level boarding, free Wi-Fi, bike storage, and much more. With this new, premium rapid transit service, South Dade commuters will be able to hop on Metro Express and spend less time commuting and more time enjoying what they love.
This is a monumental accomplishment for Miami-Dade County and the administration of Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, and such, I look forward to working together to continue improving the safe, reliable transportation network our customers depend on.
Thank you,
Stacy L. Miller, P.E.

An improved experience for Metrorail riders
DTPW welcomes back riders to the Coconut Grove Metrorail Station, which reopened at the end of May. The station was closed in January to perform much-needed station renovations and infrastructure modernizations to enhance the rider experience. Station enhancements include completely remodeled restrooms, new water fountains, comfortable, modern granite benches, modern, waterproofed tiles on the ground and platform levels, elevator modernization, and new way-finding signage to guide riders through key areas, including the parking garage. Escalator renovations are also currently in progress to finalize the station upgrade. With these changes, Metrorail and Metrobus passengers will enjoy a future-ready station that is safer, more accessible, and more comfortable for everyone.
We appreciate your patience and understanding during the renovation period and hope you enjoy your new, enhanced experience!

Transit-Oriented Communities offer many great benefits and for this reason, DTPW is working on a development study along the South Dade Corridor. The main objective of the study is to create a strategy for the economic and neighborhood improvement of several communities from Dadeland to Homestead now served by new transit options, assessing the potential for Transit-Oriented Communities near the state-of-the-art Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) stations opening soon along the South Dade TransitWay.
To ensure the study’s success through public feedback opportunities, the department has launched a short survey that provides those completing it with the option to select which type of community development they would like to see near five specific areas along the TransitWay. From low density residential to outdoor dining or parks and open spaces, the choice is up to you! Let us know your opinion today. Your voice matters.
DTPW’s Road, Bridge, and Canal Maintenance crews are true road warriors. As part of Potholepalooza, a focused effort to refresh our county roads ahead of the rainy season, this team has repaired almost 1,300 potholes throughout the county since 2023. Most recently, our road warriors took on dozens of potholes across District 12 in the spring, paving the way for smoother commutes for residents, drivers, and local businesses in that district.
This continued initiative proves that when community voices and county action come together, real progress follows. The road ahead is now smoother. Let’s keep moving Miami-Dade forward! Know of any roads that still need work? Submit a service request with 311 today!
After successfully completing an intensive ten-month training program, ten DTPW employees have graduated as the department’s newest Systems Electronic Radio Technicians. The Systems Maintenance section plays a crucial role in installing, repairing, and maintaining essential electronic equipment that supports the operation of the entire Miami-Dade Transit system. Technicians are recruited from within DTPW’s ranks – many from Bus Operations and other internal classifications - to provide employees with the opportunity to advance in their careers within the department. This internal promotion path fosters a deep sense of pride among staff and reinforces a culture of growth.
To achieve this career milestone, trainees are required to master troubleshooting and repairing bus destination signs, radio equipment, and other vital electronic gear. Their hard work, dedication and commitment have truly paid off. Congratulations to this unit of new Systems Electronic Radio Technicians, their trainers, and supervisors. We look forward to seeing all they accomplish in this exciting new chapter of their careers.
Stacy Miller - Driving progress through purpose and collaboration
With a career defined by big moves and strategic leadership, Director and CEO Stacy L. Miller, P.E. steers the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) with over 34 years of invaluable experience in the transportation industry.
Stacy began her career at the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) immediately following her graduation from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Starting as a Professional Engineer Trainee, Stacy advanced to various leadership positions including District Four Director of Transportation Development, Assistant Secretary of Finance and Administration, and District Six Secretary. One of her key accomplishments was the creation of the first Program Management Office for FDOT. After years of exceptional leadership and forward-thinking in the role, the agency replicated the office throughout the state of Florida!
Now at DTPW, Stacy oversees everything under the transportation and public works umbrella—roads, bridges, buses, rail, mover, micromobility, trails, and more. “If you think of it through a transportation perspective, it’s ours. It’s very exciting.” What excites her most so far is discovering how the many parts of the agency fit together—and how her experience can support that integration in a collaborative effort. While building new infrastructure is important, she’s equally focused on the fundamentals and making sure the existing network is maintained in top condition for the millions of residents who depend on it. “I always stress that no matter who you are at our agency, you impact millions of people’s lives every day – keep them in mind with everything you do.”
Stacy emphasizes that she is a civil engineer by education, but she always chose a path that had value and would grow her as a supervisor, leader, and as a person, overall. Attributing much of her success to mentors and supporters around her, she hopes to lead her team with the same dedication and passion. When Stacy removes her “hard hat or safety vest” at the end of the day, she enjoys delving into new worlds through books and nurturing her mental and physical well-being with a dynamic workout.
Happy Fourth of July!
On July 2, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson. Since then, this special date has been celebrated as the birth of American independence, with festivities ranging from fireworks, parades, and concerts to more casual family gatherings and barbecues.
As a reminder, during this year’s Independence Day on Friday, July 4, Miami-Dade Transit will provide weekend service on Metrorailand Metromoverand Sunday service on Metrobus and MetroConnect. MetroLink will not operate during the 4th of July holiday. Miami-Dade County offices will be closed, including all DTPW administrative, Customer Service, and Special Transportation Service (STS) offices. However, STS customers can call the reservation number (305-871-1111) to reserve or cancel an STS trip.
On behalf of our DTPW family, we’d like to wish you a happy and safe Fourth of July!
