JANUARY 2026

Making sure all of Miami-Dade is connected and future-ready

Miami-Dade is moving forward — and 2025 proved just how powerful smart infrastructure investments can be.

We launched Metro Express, the County’s first Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service and the most transformative transit investment South Dade has seen in generations. Running on the 20-mile South Dade TransitWay, Metro Express is providing a smoother, more efficient ride to thousands of residents connecting to jobs, schools, healthcare, and activities throughout the county. Early ridership tells a powerful story, with 2,500 more weekday riders on Metro express than our previous express service – confirming both the demand for and the impact of this long-awaited connection.

But Metro Express was not the only milestone shaping South Dade’s future.

In 2025, we also celebrated two critical bridge projects – a groundbreaking for the new Snowden Bridge and the opening of SW 136 Street – restoring vital connections, improving safety, and strengthening resilience for surrounding communities. These projects reflect our continued commitment to modernizing infrastructure while prioritizing the everyday needs of residents, cyclists, pedestrians, and commuters.

Our work expands to every corner of this community, with continued focus on other SMART corridors, progress on The Underline, and multiple transit-oriented developments coming online this year – most recently VOX in South Miami.

From transformative transit to safer crossings and stronger connections, each milestone reached this year reinforces a simple truth: when we invest in connection, we invest in people. I am proud of the progress we’ve made and am grateful to the dedicated teams and community partners who’ve made it possible. Looking ahead, I’m excited for the continued growth and connectivity that 2026 will bring as we continue to invest in our infrastructure and the opportunities that creates for Miami-Dade County businesses and residents.

A Year That Moved Miami-Dade Forward

In 2025, Miami-Dade County didn’t just improve mobility — we redefined it.

From the launch of our first-ever Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system to new transit-oriented communities, expanded public spaces, new bridges, and more, this year marked a turning point in how residents connect to jobs, education, opportunity, and one another.

As I start my ninth month as Director and CEO of the Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works, I am incredibly proud – not only of what we’ve delivered, but of the people who made it possible.

2025 was a defining year for DTPW. The launch of Metro Express marked our County’s first rapid transit expansion in more than a decade and demonstrated what this team can achieve through collaboration, innovation, and deep community engagement. From planning and construction to operations and customer support, our employees, public and private sector partners, and stakeholders across the community worked together toward one shared goal: moving Miami-Dade forward.

Beyond Metro Express, we advanced projects that strengthen quality of life countywide. With 9,000 miles of roadways, 4,000 miles of sidewalks, and almost 200 bridges throughout the county’s 34 municipalities, our work touches everyone in Miami-Dade, which requires we think holistically about mobility. From new transit-oriented communities and public spaces to safer streets, modernized infrastructure, and even planning for smooth, safe mobility during next year’s World Cup, a lot goes into keeping the almost 3 million residents in the country’s 10th largest transit system moving. None of it happens overnight, and none of it happens alone; it happens because of the dedicated public servants who care deeply about the communities we serve throughout Miami-Dade County.

As we kick off 2026, I’m energized by the road ahead of us and grateful to work alongside such a talented, mission-driven team. Thank you for trusting us with your mobility – and for helping to shape what comes next.

Inspired Connections:
Art en Route

  • Art and artists play a vital role in Miami-Dade’s identity as a world-class city – so it should come as no surprise that it also takes center stage throughout our transit system. From murals to digital displays and sculptures, the art throughout our system reflects the dynamic cultural richness of our diverse community. Our most recent addition? This beautiful mural by Miami-based graffiti artist David Anasagasti at Dadeland North Metrorail Station.

  • Check out our Art en Route guide, which details many of the pieces found throughout Miami-Dade County’s transit system.

Transit Honor Guard
Toy Drive

  • The Miami-Dade Transit Honor Guard hosted its second annual toy drive on December 19, 2025 at Garden of Light Academy in North Miami, spreading holiday joy to more than 40 children in the community.

  • Founded to honor transit operators who have passed away, the Honor Guard has expanded its mission to include meaningful community service. This year, children were able to choose between a bike, a toy, or two toys, thanks to generous donations from Transit bus operators, maintenance staff, and community partners.
